My first plan is to cut off the X-Trails shock mounts . The SCX-10 shocks are abit long in sprung form . So I will be using the SCX-10 shock hoops left over from the Blazer build . This will raise the shocks about 1/4" lowering the frame that much .This will be done front and rear .

The wheels are the 26mm 0 offset stock car wheels. After seeing them I was like this is not going to work . So I cut the interbead off and then added it back to the front side . I think they look much better now .

Jim
Thanks it is a very easy mod and well worth it . :tmb

I ended up going with the Proline 1980 CHEVY Pick-up long bed #3248-00

It will get my rust paint job on the inside. Maybe some junkyard panels ,maybe a few new panels and I'm think a primered bed . We will see , I have been lazy on getting started on the paint .

I did some horse trading today . I got some Proline bumpers and a 3Racing winch on the way .

I also started on the paint(no pics till it is done) . I did do my rust paint job on the inside . Then I layed down some silver on the outside first to look like metal . It has a black hood ,green right front fender , blue and white bed with primer on the tailgate .

I started off doing my rust coat on the inside .

Then I painted the outside Silver (to look like raw metal).

Next I painted to bed blue .

Next I painted the hood Black (to look like a new panel).

Then I moved to the right front fender . I painted it a dark green .

Then the cab and both doors got a coat of red .

Then the left front fender got a shot coat of primer .

Some new window rubber . :p

Next the bed got a white strip .

Oh and some bondo work on the bed .

There was a little rust around the other tail light . Had to shoot some prime on it for now.

one more pic

I got the front bumper mounted today . I made some Alum. brackets (still need to paint them). I also cut the bottom front part of the fenders off . Why because it is a Redneck thang ! I'm thinkin' about doing some styrene work to the side of the bumper. It looks a little open after cutting the lower part of the fender away .

actually the lower fenders on the GM's we used to notch the inside edge w/ a hack saw then whack the corners in with a mallet so they would clear the tires better. They'd fold over right into the wheel well bending at the cuts.

I like this build, it's very realistic. :tmb The bead deal you did is AWESOME and makes the wheel look excellent.

awesome shots
they look very real and could fool people who didn't know better. :)
That is what scale is all about . I dig it when someone says they look real .

Small update
I ran into a problem last nite . I was grinding out the bondo and the bed was alot worse than I had thought. So I had a set of Bushwacker flares (AX800040) :tong sitting around for another build . So out came the cutoff wheel , hammers and grinder. One down and 3 to go ..........

Well I got in from work a little early today . So I busted out the cutoff wheel , grinder & hammers . I got a pic of the cut out fender before the flare was put on . Just 1 more to go and the flares will be done .

I was ask for some pics looking straight on with the front .
The flares let the Axial axles tuck real nice . They add about 20mm per side to the body .Here is a few pics

Oh yes I found a pair of Tamiya tank shackles in the old parts box . So I replace the cheap looking ones on the bumper .
