Site Related: B/S/T

I know I need to add a a note to the knowledge base noting the B/S/T section requires membership of 60 days or 60 posts (will do it after I submit this thread), but I was wondering if maybe we should lax this to 30/30? Or maybe we should look at a verification solution to allow quicker access (if one is available)? Suggestions?

We had no restrictions at one time. A few were scammed, and it was decided 30-30. That lasted a long while. A couple years ago I was asked to make it tougher to get in because of more scammers. Seems some sites had upped their restrictions so the scammers came here. Well some didn't like it getting tougher, so I put it to members vote. It was a big victory for 60-60 .

I like the 60/60 rule.
I think it makes it something nice for contributing (ie: posting) members.
We're not here to be a way around eBay fees.
If you don't want to contribute and just want to buy stuff then go to towerhobbies.

I would agree with everyone else. The members voted for the 60/60 rule and it has proven itself to work as scams have been way down from before the rule was voted on and enacted. Please keep it at the 60/60 rule.

Is it 60 days OR 60 posts or is it 60 days AND 60 posts? I dont have a start day on my profile but a start month i think. Just curious, am going to start a build thread but am also looking for a second clod to go with the chassis I have and I keep seeing stuff I would like on the front page but cant access the link yet. :(

i think the 30/30 option is better...2 months and 60 posts is a pretty long time to be able to buy/post stuff...also, sometimes it hard to contribute a good post to a thread...and if one just posts up "cool build" or something to that effect, then they get viewed as someone just trying to up his/her post count and flamed for doing so...

i say 30/30 or give instant access if they become a contributor and pay money towards the upkeep of the site...

sorry for the people who got duped, but that's why doing a search in the feedback section is important...also, paypal can refund you...i've gotten refunds from bunk sellers before...i only send gift payments to trusted sellers...even if someone insists on gift, i'll just send it as a payment for goods and cover the 3% fees...the 3% is a small price to pay for insurance on your purchase...

i contribute my ideas/posts/builds here, and i post a lot of comments, suggestions, etc...and i dont think anyone here would say i'm just a troll or just trying to sell stuff and abuse the B/S/T forum...but, on scale4x4rc, i'm a member there, but since i dont have too many scale trucks or the intensity of the builds those guys do, so i dont really post up...but i appreciate the forum and gaining insight and info from it...i would love to be able to access their B/S/T forum, but it requires a year and 300 posts...a post count i dont think i ever will get on that site...i would love to pay for access to their BST, but it isnt an option...

i assume there's other here in similar situations to mine: love for the trucks, and willingness to buy/sell/trade on the forum, but not enough useful posts to be able to access it...i think being able to get a wider audience to do business with would be better for everyone...for those of you selling stuff, someone who didnt have access before may want it and buy your items that have been sitting for 3 months...for those who are looking for stuff, maybe a member without access has it just collecting dust and willing to dump it for cheap...who knows?!? if people are able to find the things they want at the prices they want, then maybe more builds/threads can be started and contribute a lot more to the site...i know if i got the kyosho twinforce i want at a good price, i'd definitely post up about it and do a thread with the mods i do (hint hint)...lol...

It was both, 60 posts AND 60 days

I personally (when I owned RCMT) didn't want to take money just so somebody could use the BST section. I always viewed RCMT as a place to trade ideas and information first. BST was just a "after thought" and not really needed. But that was my opinion and realize others liked it. But I'd never let it be the main focus here.

Just my 2cents, but I think the 60/60 sucks. I understand weeding out the scammers with the 60/60, but it is really frustrating to hardcore hobbyists to for 1, have to wait to do business with other hobbyists, and for 2, to come up with something to post once a day other than "nice truck". I have talk to Steven about this just days ago. I'm of the opinion of a 30 OR 30 would be a good system, a 60/60 just drives people away from the site sooner. Maybe theres another way to give good people quicker access to bst, maybe eBay feedback or feedback from other forums. I am new to this site as far as membership, but I've been lurking around looking at threads for quite some time. It was Bret at CPE who suggested I join up and share some of my builds. So hear I am, I havent posted anything but this yet. I think a forum is a useful tool for people to contribute, not for them to post "nice truck" 60 times so the can barter with other like minded people. Anyone can buy from tower, but I think most hobbyist prefer to do business with other hobbyist. I vote for a 30 post OR 30 days, or in some cases, a case by case basis based on reputation from other forums.

I waited the 300/1yr over at scale4x4 and I thought that one was tough... but the day did come finally. I'm cool with the 60/60- it allows us to get a feel for who we are dealing with and vise versa. It's never convenient when you want to buy/sell something right away but you get over it. If I was all grow'd up and owned my own forum I would keep the 60/60 it seems to work and isn't terrible at the same time.

I do have to add- it was here and clodtalk that I was first exposed to forums and I necroposted and posted "nice truck" here and there... it's part of the process and in the end it didn't destroy anyone.;)

60/60 is great. Even when I joined, when I was a NRCTPA director, and had to do 30/30, it was fine with me. There are safety/deterrents in most credible forums. If you are a true believer in the r/c hobby, its no big deal.. The posts will pass quickly.

I'd hope if a change for this was to happen it would be because of a membership vote, and not just a squeaky wheel. Because when it comes down to it, it's the members who use it.

My personal opinion does not count. It is the members who drive the forum. While I might make some changes if I get tared and feathered (i.e. classifieds) I am happy to do an about face ;) Thus why I started this thread.

60 and 60 works well IMO. If you are only hear to BST then you're not helping the forum and the members who come here to use it for what it was intended for. If someone feels they need to leave the site due to BST rules, then they weren't here for the right reasons in the first place.

Hey

Personally i got dircted here because of the interest of getting into this type of rc with my son, but was trying to find used unit for myself off this site. He got the new one.. :)
I can understand the need to keep scammers off and such. But a secondary way of checking people out would be cool.
now as far as contributing I have 30 years exp from gas to electric, from helicopters to boats. First time with this type of rc

60/60 sounds good. It worked in the past and hopefully it will work for the future. I am glad its back. Everyone had to wait at sometime for this. I can understand where the new members have a beef but we to have some sort of security/peace of mind.

I definitely don't think we should go lower than 60/60. Like Bill said if this site has the most lax BST rules than the scammers will come here. But maybe we should consider allowing new members to just BUY stuff. I know this may open a can of worms but here's my thinking. It's not very common for a buyer to scam on the forums and sellers can protect themselves through paypal by using delivery confirmation. And with Clods and other associated solid axle parts becoming scarce I think we need to acknowledge that newbies need a safe place to purchase things. Since this is one of the last places that caters to the solid axle rc monster truck community it would only make sense that we would want to help new members in every way possible.
