New to the site and back into the hobby with my son.

Ordered two AX10's for us for x-mas and just to make thing's quick & easy, picked up a couple of the Novak motor/ESC crawler packages.

Anybody running these yet?
Seem to work fine?

Really cool to see an R/C offering for rock crawlers and all this time I've been playing with the real thing...look at the cash I coulda' been saving! :tong

Good to hear, I've always liked the Novak stuff.

...gotta wait to look at em though, being x-mas presents, we can't play with em until the 25th. :bang

With winter here, my son and I have already started thinking about what all we can stack together in the house to climb. :tmb

Is this site commonly this slow...? :snail

Seems like very little traffic in the is area considering the AX10 is such a recently offered package.

I got an ARTR in a trade that came with a waterproof XL5, Novak Fifty-Five 55t motor, Hi-Tec 645MG servo and Traxxas radio. The guy I got it from made some axle mounts for a split pack, which I still need to get. I ran it a little with a 6 cell flat pack mounted to the stock battery location, but it's way too high CG. I stacked some 1:1 car tires, a speaker box and some foam from old cushions against an old dryer in my friend's garage. It did pretty good, but an axle pack would be much better and I need to do something about the antenna location. I was getting some glitching, the antenna is kinda wrapped around the chassis. The fluorescent lighting seemed to have an effect as well.

When I get back from Cali I'm going to order an axle pack, maybe add some weights to the wheels. Depending on how well xmas treats me, I might get a Spektrum DX3S radio and some receivers.

This setup should do good for a while. Eventually I'd like to maybe go brushless with a programmable esc.

It does seem to be a little slow around here. Kinda has been for a while, especially after the server/hosting issue. There's a decent amount of vehicle diversity here, but it is kinda Clod heavy. Pullers, high-lifts and CORR trucks are also pretty popular around here.

How does yours run with the XL-5 spliff?
Is the XL-5 water proof any good for crawling, or is the movement a bit too jerky?

To answer my own question...

The AX10's were x-mas presents, so when the Novak package came it seemed only fitting to wrap them up too.

I took mine out to the shop first while the boy was playing his new DS so I could take my time without the "is it done yet' excitement.

Less than an hour of my time had it installed and running around inside, climbing chairs, pillows, kids etc.
Found the ESC to be on the large side and decided to mount it on-top of the steering servo. (may or may not stay there)

The boys AX went easier/faster and soon we had em cruising around in the snow, we had a cool mix of hard pack and soft (sun softened) snow to play around on.

The AX's did great, worked perfect and given traction, went anywhere we pointed them.
The Novak package seems to be a winner for an "out of the box" combo IMO.

Gotta say though with this being my first crawler, the initial lack of top end speed took some getting used too.

I can't say I've spent much time with it. The guy I got it from made axle mounts for a split pack, but I didn't have the $ at the time to get one. Instead I installed the stock battery mounting plate, which sits over the motor/trans and is the highest point of the whole truck. I ran it with a 6 cell flat pack and aside from the way-too-high CG, it did pretty good. The antenna is kinda wrapped around the chassis and I think it's causing some interference, also the overhead fluorescent lights seemed to have an effect too. When I can afford it, I'm going to get a Mamba Max ESC so I can program it to be what I want. Then after a while I might get a brushless motor for it, but the Novak Fifty-Five seems to be pretty good.

Not that I'm trying to get into competitions (who knows), but a Dig trans would be super sick.
