ok guys so here guys here goes.... I got a 23 year old stock Clod Buster I just replaced the plastic servo savers with the aluminum ones from CPE and I'm having issues with the steering still . The truck turns right but not left,it looks like the steering servo is set right and the tie rods are all set right. My uncle seems to think that there may be an issue with the radio and the receiver..... any ideas ????

Stock Clods never turned great to begin with, but they did at least move left and right. Pick the truck up off the ground and see if it turns left and right correctly.

You could have a misaligned servo horn, or possibly have flex within the links going from the servo savers to the center servo itself. Without seeing anything, I'm betting on the servo horn, or possibly your steering trim setting on the radio itself.

If adjusting the servo horn or adjusting the trim doesn't work then you may have bad servo. If it is the original 23 year old one then you are probably due to replace it anyhow. While you are at it, you can do a few inexpensive mods to the truck that will make it far more reliable and fun to use.

These would include:
1) replacing the MSC with an ESC -not too expensive to do and improves everything greatly. I am selling a super rooster ESC that would do the trick & it would make the truck more plug and play. Here is the link to my ad:

2) replacing all the bushings with proper bearings. Again, easy to do and you can get bearing kits super cheap from e-bay. This will improve your Clod in a really big way.

3) swap out all your steering links with proper thicker aluminum ones. This will remove a lot of the slop in the steering and make it more fun to drive.

4) cut/shave the stops on the top and bottom of the wheel hubs off-it is free mod and it will allow your wheels to turn more making it easier to turn

Hope this helps. Oh and post some :pics of your Clod...always nice to see another member's truck! :tong

ok Brett and Canuck .....the steering servo isn't the original I replaced it last year with a Futaba not sure which one but it is a higher torque one. If I pick the truck up it'll steer to the right but not left ,I took off the speed control tray and the servo horn looks mounted right and is truning equal in both directions. So when you say flex with the rids I'm guessing that may be it but I'm not sure how to correct this ? Oh and one more studid question how can I post pics ???

Just to be clear, you set the steering trim on the radio to neutral and then mounted the servo horn so the steering was centered ( while the radio is still on)?

If it steered for a while and now doesn't, you've likely partially stripped the splines inside the servo horn. If that's the case, re-centering the horn will work for a little while until the horn shifts again.

Dont worry. You are headed in the right direction by working out the all the bugs. Truck is old and needs some TLC before bashing.

Need more info on what electronics/gear you running, Battery, esc. how old are your electronics? Post pics too when you can.

NO ESC still got the mechanical in there and it works pretty good. The radio is one that came in a combo deal from tower hobbies 23 years ago Kyosho Pulsar Pro 200 pistol grip. the battery is nimh 3300 mah. oh and incidentally I already asked but how do you post pictures in the posts ?
