I have always saw that people were very disappointed in the 4 strokes in a Maxx or Dom because they were just so slow, lots of torque but no RPM's. I would say get a CRT center unit and make it brushless, here is a pic of one converted :

Or you could wait until next year when HPI is going to release their 1/8 scale gasser truck, I am waiting to see what engine they put in it cause I would like to convert a Thunder over to a gasser.

I bet yours looks a lot like this one having Racer X on it.

You sir are speaking my language with this Racer X talk, lets see your beast please!

I have a .40 fourstroke in a Maxx. It's difficult getting the correct ratios and clutch combination for something that was mainstream like the Maxx conversion. Good luck for something that less that 2% of the RC public has done a conversion like what you're specifying.

When a fourstroke starts out, the torque is mostly there right off idle. It doesn't have too many RPM's in it's powerband and therefore requires solid clutch engagement almost immediately. The gearing has to be tall enough to maximize a top end of 12k-14k RPMs. A two speed is essential and a three speed would be nice to have.

Don't waste your money; if you can find something else to spend it on, do it. I have almost $2k into my Maxx and it's more of a novelty than a legitimate basher or racer.

Most heli engines aren't 4 stroke though.

Im assuming hes just referring to a .70 two stroke Heli engine like the old Thunder Tiger EK4's had in them. Getting it to fit in that truck would be really tricky. Especially with finding a clutch and flywheel. You could probably re use the old EK4 parts if you could find them but its been discontinued for many years and those trucks were a handful as it was. Just get yourself a nice .28 and call it a day. Its more that enough rip!
