2WD Nitro Puller Question

I'm machining a couple 2WD nitro pullers using the Traxxas TRX 3.3 engine. Anyway, was wondering what gear ratio range I should be shooting for with these?

Built my share of Mamba Max 5700kV powered 2WD's but I haven't a clue how a nitro engine compares against it.

Any ballpark figures with this particular engine would be much appreciated.

If I know the general gearing, that helps me by minimizing the slotting in the chassis which strengthens it and saves me some time spent on the mill ;)

I'd be interested in the answer to that myself. I'm guessing it's lower because I highly doubt a nitro engine could even compare to a brushless motor's torque.

I like to see a nitro vs. brushless ... everything else being equal ... my money is on the brushless

Brushless is definitely more user friendly & maintenance free (reason I refuse to build them).

ironically it is the same as a full sized 2wd puller between 15 & 22 to one about....tht is were mine is (15#)

It would depend on which 2wd nitro class your talking about.

10lb pro mod nitro. .15 nitro motor max. 30 - 38 to 1

15lb nitro .30 nitro motor max. 20 - 30 to 1

A 3.3 traxxas motor would be to big for the 10lb class and under matched for the 15lb class. A 3.3 in the 15lb class would be at least 38 to 1

nitro to brushless comparison in the 2wd stuff, your talking aprox. 1000 rpm less wheel speed for the nitro.

Cool ... I was guessing that a ratio between 40 - 20:1 would work. Already got my gearbox figures worked out ... ready to start machining tomorrow.

These are for my own personal amusement ... just pulling for fun :)

Were going to do an outlaw 10 pound class 21. And up . I'll be using a axial .28 . I'm shooting for 20:1 . At first . It's a driveline setup I'm building.
