Are you all coming over to the Ihobby next year? If so come out for the week and race with us at the NR/CTPA Worlds. You can't beat that week of racing. If you guys are interested I am sure we can hook you up with transportation of your equipment from one event to the next if needed. Any kind of help the NR/CTPA can be just let me know and I will get you taken care of.

Thanks Darren, I'm planning on making the trip but I won't be sure for another few months. A few other guys are also interested but again it's too early to formally commit, But the plan is to do exactly what you suggested, hit both events in a week and a half. Thanks for the offer of help and I may just take you up on that. Bari contacted us with offers of help to get some of our racers up there for ihobby/Clodapalooza too so hopefully we can get this to come together.

Now we just have to figure out where we can practice our setups on carpet!:D

the set up at ihobby will be carpet. the reason for allowing 20 turn motors is because they are easy to get and very cost friendly, you can get them on ebay for around $18 each. the thinking was there does not seem to be much differance between the mag/mahem and the 27 turns i run. so maybe a 20 turn with lower gears would still give you speed but would help the battery last longer because motor doesn't pull on battery as hard? just me thinking

There is nothing "custom" about a 4-cell pack. It's simply a regular 6-cell NiMh pack with 2 cells removed. Some distributors even still have 4-cell packs available for purchase so you don't have to buy a 6-cell and remove two.

I don't really care what the rule is since I don't have one built yet, but personally if everyone wants the trucks to stay slow, I feel like it should be 1-cell lipo only because a 4-cell nickel pack is indeed faster when peaked and decent ni-mh cells are getting harder and harder to find, and a 1-cell can be had for very low prices, cheaper than a half-decent ni-mh pack nowadays.

Like I said though, it doesn't matter to me since I'll be buying a pack either way. I've got some motors stashed away and I'll have to do some testing to see which are best.

Here's some more food for thought:

Just figured I'd stir the pot :p

When i say custom I say that because that's what is allowed under NRCTPA rules. Once you allow assembled NiMH packs from individual cells that's what 99% of the racers will do. Then your dealing with matched cells, battery conditioning, etc., etc. Like I said we don't even allow side by side packs in most of our classes just to keep things in check.

Simply guessing as I wasn't around when the class evolved but I suspect that 4 cells are easier to conceal than 6. As for the motors, they were readily available and most likely work better with 4 cells (than stock silver cans). Then there's the irresistible urge to modify these trucks.

I have the makings of a Retro.... might just have to throw one together also.

Hey Bari...wats the word on the Wheely Pounder that Will G made so famous? Will the rules allow for these to be ran or will it have to be somewhat stock wheely king?

and if thats the case have you guys thought of the rules on the GP? tranny swaps? wheel and tire swaps? brushless or brushed? just curious lol

Kent,

Feel free to contact me if you all decide to come out. Our family will be at both events and will have plenty of room to haul/store your equipment if need be all you have to do is ask. It would be cool to meet you all and hang out for a couple races. Now what we need to do is get you guys hooked on tractor pulling!!!!!

Matt,

Nice video. In fact I remember that race when it first aired. However, if that was a truck today it would have gone twice as far. Just because we lable them as slow doesn't mean they were entirely slow LOL!!!! Plus let's not forget that was in a straight line with a ton of shut down room. Once it got over the hill at the line the laws a inercia took over. I know I didn't spell that right. Any way you get what I am saying pot stirrer LOL!!!

I agree with Darren, more then likely we will model the rules of the Retro Class around the rules that the NR/CTPA has successfully used.

Bari, this event sounds like its going to be great. Its been way to long that my RC's have been ran. I hope time will allow us to make it to this. My BIGFOOT retro's are really ready to get out! I never thought that my kids growing up would change our time for this hobby, but did it ever. We will try and keep up on this, because its going to be neat to meet all the different racers from all over.

Lord Tim Powers!!!!! It has been way too long. I hope that you guys are able to dust those trucks off and come race that week. We have missed you all the last couple years at the Worlds and what would Clodapalooza be with out one of the original modified clod designers!!!!! I know how the schedules go, but we all hope that you will be free those weekends to start racing again.

Tad, that would be cool to see you up here again as well. Don't forget along with Clodapalooza the NR/CTPA will be having a huge pulling blow out going on at the same time. With the NR/CTPA World Championships and Clodapalooza going back to back this will be the biggest week our hobby has ever seen. It is going to be awesome to be a part of.

Well, Well, Well,....

Looks like quite the event starting to take place! I think I need to dust off the old race trucks, probably build some new ones for the **** of it, and come back guns blazing! Especially if the all mighty Lord Powers is showing up!! And btw Tim, Excaliber is ready for your blue blood foot trucks;) I think some of my other friends from Michigan need to make a trip down as well... It would be sweet to make this event possibly the largest gathering of Clods...Heck, of Retro's too!!

Definitely looking forward to this...

What would be cool is to see all the chassis manfactures in attendance with their products they have develpoed over the years.

I am pretty sure even a dusty old Foot truck will still beat any other old retro truck Dan can come up with ;)

Eric it will be hard not to make possibly the biggest clod show ever. I was going to make the worlds but think I will skip it and make this one. I will get to see a lot more old friends at this one.
