I borrowed a high torque Futaba servo for the front steering from a friend of mine, because the cheap Chinese servo that I had in there didn't really have the required torque to steer the wheels to full lock even when driving, but now this Futaba one gets the job done even when stationary!:cool

It's the BLS157HV model if I recall correctly...

And while I was installing the servo, I realized I didn't have any pics of the undercarriage, so I decided to snap one!:)

    Yeah, I know!:D

Too bad I haven't done anything to it, but the next update is gonna be a new freestyle video I'm gonna shoot. Just need to put the rear steering back together, and the gas tank in, and then I'm gonna build some cool looking freestyle track and pull a freestyle!:p

Now that you started asking for an update, I actually went to the garage, and hooked up the rear steering(what a harrowing ordeal!) and all, so the truck is basically ready for a freestyle now!:cool

Still need to make some small adjustments to the rear steering, and do some radio programming, but hopefully I can fire up the big D soon!:p

Hey Paul, I was checking out the build on scale4x4 where you had a little more detail on how you modded the axles. I really liked what you did with the axle trusses and was thinking of doing something along the same lines. However I couldn't find any steel with the right inside diameter to fit over the mad force plastic tubes to mount the braces to. Like you, I prefer steel. What did you use? Sorry if you wrote it, but I didn't see it.

I had seen someone else use schedule 40 pipe bored out, but I don't have any tools here to do something like that.

Also, I noticed you welded the shock mounts on the axle instead of brazing. Was it just because you had the welder out or were you worried it wouldn't hold?

    Awesome build again!

I couldn't find any fitting tube either, so I had to make some. I took a piece of tube which was a bit too small, and then I cut a lengthwise slit in it and stretched the gap and added a strip of sheet metal in it and welded it back together. I don't remember exactly how I pulled that off, but it wasn't very easy, so I suggest you find someone who could make you those pieces with a lathe. That's what I would do if I had to make those again...

Yeah, the main reason was that I was a bit worried that brazed mounts wouldn't hold, and the second reason was, that it was much easier to position all those tiny braces when I could tack weld them a little and check the measurements and reposition them if I wanted before doing all the final welds.

    Thanks for your interest! :)

Cool, thx the info. I was thinking of doing the same, splitting the tube. Although I was thinking of starting with a bigger tube and cutting away. But the more I think about it,starting smaller might hold the shape better.

Awesome slo mo vid with the Bigfoot body'd mf too!

    Ummm...What freestyle video???:rolleyes:rolleyes:rolleyes:eek:eek::D

Yeah, smaller should work better. I've been trying to remember how I pulled that off, and it's been only three years, but seems like my memory isn't what it used to be!:D

    Thanks a lot!:)

I was looking for this build in the Kyosho section, but just found it again.

I would love to see a new updated video with the narrowed axles and other changes, but I know it is a lot of work to make those videos.

I seen you also like 4x4ing from your other videos, I also like this so If you ever wana talk mog or volvo axles or something like that message me anytime.

Back to your GD truck, how can I make my RC4WD wheels sit back a bit over the hubs, I have the new drenlin units with the gold adapters, they are super nice but have way too little backspacing (too wide overall)

Yeah, me too... I kick myself every time I think of all the videos I've been planning to shoot, but just have too many other projects going on. I've been building my new garage the whole summer, and all the little leftover rc time I've had, has been spent with my new passion, racing quad copters...

How about talking about how little straight axle suzuki's manage to keep up with those portal monsters? LOL ;)

I'm not familiar with the newer wheels, but I guess you could try having narrower adapters 3D printed for them?
