Today I drilled and tapped holes for the ball joints.

Test fitting some random ball joints, but that's basically the look I'm after.

And you asked for green parts, so here goes!:D Still need to clear coat them, and I'm gonna paint that mounting plate black on that other part. Also drilled and tapped those too before painting.

And because I wasn't completely satisfied with the shock angles, I moved the mounts on the axle 4mm outwards per side, so now it looks so much better, and the limiter strap angles are still fine enough.:) Also, the swaybar turnbuckles can now be mounted exactly vertical, so that's a good thing too.

The new shock angle does look better, and the green parts came out really nice as well.

Paul4x4Design metal worx is finally rolling in with an update, after a short absence due to major problems with the postal service taking a good effort at trying to lose all my parcels these days, but I finally managed to get all the parts, and finish the front axle mods and the driveshaft loop!:cool

So, what you see here, is a comparison shot of the new M2 ball joint with a regular M3 sized joint. Yeah, those things are small!

But they needed some modifications to suit my needs, so I pulled their tiny guts out, and drilled bigger 3mm holes in the balls! Hmmm, that didn't sound right... LOL:D
    [IMG]

And here's the result. I also drilled and tapped the ends to M2.5.

Roses are red and violets are blue, but the joints on my Digger I prefer grey! Luckily the anodizing filed off very easily, and I wanted to file it off instead of some chemical treatment, because it gave the joints that nice weathered look.

And the driveshaft loop itself finally received some color, and I got to screw the joints on it. :)

It was a bit tricky to get in place, but I'm pleased with the result! And it even works throughout the suspension cycle without binding, so that was a big relief too. :) Notice the new reinforced support piece between the upper link mounts.

Looks pretty cool from the below too!

    Side view.

A bit blurry pic, but it was hard to get the phone in there and try to take a good shot of the whole thing...

Scaleish... Even though the green seems to be slightly different between the chassis and the loop in the pics, you can't really tell the difference with naked eye.

And finally, overall look on the big-D with the painted axle housing and all.

I've already started working on the rear axle, so I hope to get everything done soon, so I can get started with the header project...:p

    Thanks! :)

Yeah, like I said in the last sentence of that post, I took the rear axle off and started working on it while I was waiting for the parts to arrive.;)

Amazing and inspiring! Good quality pics show how to replicate perhaps.

The rear axle is almost finished and ready for paint, finally! Just have to clean it up a bit, and fab the driveshaft loop, but that's pretty easy to make. :)

Can't wait to see what the truck looks like with the "narrow" axles and driveshaft loops! I think I need to take the Digger outside and take a few pics when I get it back together! :cool

Got almost everything done and painted, so tomorrow I can put the axle back together and under the truck! :)

Also installed the transfercase back plate. Not very accurate scale wise, because in 1:1 trucks the t-case is mounted in the front of the cradle, and the rear driveshaft comes through a support tube to the rear, hence the t-case isn't visible when viewed from behind. But I think my version still looks cool, because most people don't know crap about mechanics, let alone monster truck engineering! And that velcro strapped battery next to it isn't really scale looking either. :D

Got the truck back on it's wheels! Still need to hook up the steerings and put the fuel tank back in, but I had to take it outside for a photoshoot!:cool

    The rear driveshaft loop...

    and the front one.

How about a side view of the whole truck! When I get the headers done and the body painted, I think it will look pretty nice.:)

And here's what the new track width looks like. Much better!

Oh, crap, I can't take it anymore! I have to show you guys a pic of the interior. It's still unfinished, so I'm gonna add some more detail to it, and make a firewall too, and harness the driver in the seat etc, but this is what I got so far. Tell me what you think!:)

I might finish the interior before I start making the headers, so I'm gonna put some more pics when I get the driver in there and all!:p
