You will probably be running a 10.1 with that set up make sure to run the right lift and duration cam to match and your carb setup.

Got the rest of my parts in yesterday, minus a few small things. New balancer (skinnier than the stock one so probably need an adaptor or something to get the pulleys to line up right), oil pump rod to prime it, return spring and fancy bracket, dipstick, etc. Hopefully I can get this thing ready to put together by next weekend, just gotta do some sandblasting and cleaning and painting then itll be ready lol.

UPDATE 6/15

Well, now over 1300$ invested and a couple weeks time, finally got everything sandblasted (still have other things to clean, etc.) and painted up with Metal Cast paint. Started building the bottom end today, ran out of time but got half the pistons in. Hopefully will have the rest done soon and get this bad boy running in the next couple weeks (still alot of work to do to truck, etc. and I take care of my daughter all day so dont have many opportunities to work on it)

Always nice to see brandy new slugs in a motor. :)

What head gaskets are you using, they have some really good ones nowadays?

I got a Felpro gasket set. They are some of the best and cheapest out there.

Man, everything I took off this motor was dirty, the starter was covered, my new intake manifold already had crap on it just from sitting, etc. lol. Its been a long boring process cleaning and sandblasting and painting.... just glad to finally be putting it together, still have stuff to clean though.

Well, got done just now putting everything back together and ready to be started up. Going to try tomorrow to break it in, get the timing right, etc.

Heres a pic of the motor I started with before all this

And heres what it looks like now installed in the truck...

Very cool! I applaud anyone willing to work on their own vehicles. That's half the fun of owning them in my opinion.

shes a lil dusty was sitting in the garage or 6 months before i pulled it out. your truck is about the same thing and i have done most of the work myself. so you can do it to.. good luck ill be keeping track of your progress..

Looks good, thanks for posting.

I actually spent about 6 hours today trying to get this thing to start. Would crank and backfire through the carb, then later through the exhaust. Still no signs of life, hoping my wifes gpa who helped me build the bottom end didnt put the timing gears on wrong because thats alot of work to fix... ugh...

Well, decided to tear the front half of the motor off again tonight. Found out that her Gpa put the little sprocket on +4 degrees instead of at 0 by mistake. Straightened that back out, now I have to try and put the cover and stuff back on while its still in the truck. Yay... LOL

Maybe itll start now!

another thing is make shure you wired the cap the right way.. it sounds as you could have wired it in reverse. causing i to be 180 degrees backwards and it would do exaclty what you stated.. done that few times myself..lol good luck

I tried the distributor every possible way, I turned it a tooth at a time until I had it through all 12 teeth... moved plug wires, etc. nothing, so I knew it had to be the cam timing off. Hopefully now that thats fixed all I have to do is rotate the dist. until it points to the #1 plug wire and well be good to go :)

Got it started and broke in, cant get the elec choke to work so its disconnected now. Gotta get exhaust cause it leaks and cant hear if anything is wrong with the motor over it lol... Its Y pipe anyways.

At least it finally runs, now I get to go on a test drive tomorrow hopefully... Been 5 years since it was registered lol.

Ill post a short vid of it when I get time tomorrow.
