    Default DiggerXX's Wheely King Build

    Members do not see advertisements
    Hey guys,

I've had my King for a while now, just finally got a good enough job to start modding! As of right now, there are several directions I want to go, but we will see what happens first. I haven't upgraded anything as of right now, but am starting to, and decided to go ahead and start the thread.

Fresh out of the box after I got it.

    As she sits now.

Bought this beauty off of eBay, good deal for a nice body. Supposed to be an HPI Bounty Hunter body with Crusader decals.

I thought someone shrunk my WK or something...

And I also bought this Parma Digger body that I have plans for..saw it at HobbyTown, they usually don't carry them so I grabbed it.

So, my plans right now are different tires and new aluminum King Shocks...slowly upgrading, this will be more of a slow build while I learn everything.

Anyone have any suggestions for the Crusader body? The Digger body seems like it would be alright...but I hate to not be able to ever put the Crusader body on, but at the same time lose function of my BH or a Digger body.

Looks like you have a great build going so far. Cant wait to see how it turns out..

That Lucas Oil body is for 1/10 scale trucks, even tho the WK says its 1/10 its more like 1/12. HPI makes 2 different Bounty Hunter bodies. 1 for the wheely king which is the same as your stock bounty hunter and 1 for the true 1/10 trucks. You could get longer links and run bigger wheels and tires on it and use that body and the Digger body but the Bounty hunter body will be too small. If you keep it the stock size you wont be able to use the Crusader body unfortunately. Hope that helps a lil.

Yes, that helps. I would like to make it 1/10 scale, seems to be more options open body-wise. Where would one get some longer links? As for bigger wheels and tires, would the Stampede wheels work?

You can get the crawler king conversion but I would get custom links made by Brett at CPE or Mike hesse. you can get them any length u want to get the desired WB. If you look thru the WK section sum more you can find sum people who have done the stretch. You can make it have the same WB as TXT-2.0s Grave digger tuber or Will Gs wheely pounders.

The stampede wheels are a lil small and close to the WK wheels. U can use a 3.2 style wheel and tire or use sum wideners and get clod size wheels and tires. U can even ask Will G to make u sum EQR wheels (PM him about). There is a lot you can do with the WK. I agree it looks better with 1/10 bodies and biggers wheels/tires.

Cool, thanks for all of that information, I am wanting to build it as close to a scale monster truck as possible. I was hoping the Monster Jam Style Stampede wheels would work out better, I can get those for a good deal and already have the wheel hexes for them. I'll check out what CPE has, I am definitely wanting to stretch it out and scale it a little better to make it look better, but still keeping it's performance (with engine and battery upgrades of course.)

As far as wheelbase is concerned, what would be considered close to a "scale" wheelbase from a real truck? I was thinking 12'' but I could be very wrong. CPE has some links that I could use, wouldn't I have to stretch the driveshaft too? I've got quite a bit of reading up to do before I do anything.

i would make your own links there super easy and a 1/4 of the price and you can fine tune them , thats what i did on my digger build and the info is in my thread .

my links for my build were 4 in eye to eye and i run a 12 in wheel base but every chassis is different so thats the nice thing about making your own links

on a 12 in wb the monster jam tires IMO would be to small especially on a 1/10 body i think they look great on a stock wk setup though

and drive shafts i have tmaxx ones on mine but you can use stampedes also or any revo , jato shafts too

post 21 is the info for the links but here it is again

a hardware store will be cheaper for tubing and all thread

    0.049 wall 1/4'' tube http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXS021&P=ML

    6-32 all thread http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXTDS2&P=7

traxxas rod ends from pede-rustler http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJJ81&P=7

so my links are 4in , the ends are a half inch each so i made the tube 3in the cut the all tread to fit the ends ... simple and cost nothing compared to buying them

    ^I agree with Tom^
Make your own, you are better off and once you do one you realize you can custom make any rod for any wheelbase or steering link. It really is not hard and you need no special tools.

depends for 15 bucks you can get a 15t brushed motor or go brushless and spend bit more , i run a 2s lipo in mine

just remember the more power the more that breaks on these

    Very true
I never owned the esc, but the motors worked great for me.
Others have said the "package" looks funky all orange, but function is good and no issues when used properly.

I've had one of those systems for a long time - I ran the 3930kv motor in my WK and the performance was great! About every 4th-5th time I turned the ESC on the steering would work but no throttle. Cycling power would clear it up. Even with that little hiccup I would definitely buy a setup like that again.

    Hey guys,

I've changed my mind on what I want to build, I thought I was set on Crusader, but I just don't feel it. My favorite truck is Grave Digger so I really want to build some kind of Grave Digger. Body hasn't been used, it looks great. Just to let you all know, if anyone else wants to do a Crusader it's now in BST forum.

Alright. Update to my Wheely King! Got it all converted to the STRC chassis last night. Spend a few hours doing it as it was my first time taking it all apart.

    Front and rear are off

    Electronics out

Electronics mounted to the new Chassis

And it all put back together. (Don't mind the tires, I was testing the tread on the "Talon" tires. New ones to come soon.)

Overall, the truck is lighter and I think it looks better. Definitely more things to come in the future.
